When “conservative leader” means “callous asshole who doesn’t care about others”

A couple of days ago was reported a case in which a couple who had been making fun of a 7 year-old girl with a deadly disease, had been harassed and threatened, in solidarity with the girl’s family.

The way people showed their discontent with the couple’s action may bot have been the best, but the support for the suffering child is obvious. You would think that normal people tend to have that sympathy for those who suffer, right?

Well, now consider that in the last days, five gays have killed themselves because of bullying. While bullying is actually part of most teenager’s life, a suicide means that it has gone too far. You would think that normal people would feel empathy and speak against it, or at least, say nothing.

But conservative leaders are not such people.

DeMint addresses conservative issues at Spartanburg church rally

[Senator] DeMint said if someone is openly homosexual, they shouldn't be teaching in the classroom and he holds the same position on an unmarried woman who's sleeping with her boyfriend — she shouldn't be in the classroom.

“(When I said those things,) no one came to my defense,” he said. “But everyone would come to me and whisper that I shouldn't back down. They don't want government purging their rights and their freedom to religion.”

So, regardless of gay teenagers killing themselves after suffering bullying, there are still those who will encourage his followers to discriminate gays, just for being gays (women in the way, too).

Moreover, he cites his right to “freedom of religion”, as if that were a reason to hate someone else.

I am tempted to think it is. Christianity has made it very clear that hatred against gays is not wrong, that it is actually in the bible (even though Jesus never said anything about it) and that judgment, punishment and discrimination are not wrong if it is against something God supposedly also hates.

But he is not the only one. David Barton, an evangelical Christian minister and Republican political activist proposed “regulating homosexuality” by saying…

So if I got to the Centers for Disease Control and I'm concerned about health, I find some interesting stats there and this should tell me something about health.

Homosexual/bi-sexual individuals are seven times more likely to contemplate or commit suicide. Oooh, that doesn't sound very healthy.

Homosexuals die decades earlier than heterosexuals. That doesn't sound healthy.

Nearly one-half of practicing homosexuals admit to 500 or more sex partners and nearly one-third admit to a thousand or more sex partners in a lifetime.

These people are so hateful they would not consider that these gays killed themselves after a long time of suffering, caused by bigots, just like themselves. In their idiotic mind, gays deserve to be shunned and harassed and if they feel bad about it, it’s their own fault.

These two came after the gays suicides. We also have Christine O’Donnell, candidate for Delaware, stating that Homosexuality is an identity disorder, or Sharron Angle, a congress candidate for Nevada, say that gays should not adopt children (even though the American Psychological Association find no problem in that).

Last but not least, is Focus on the Family, which states that School Anti-bullying programs push a gay agenda. If what this group seeks isn't the unpunished harassing of gay teenagers, I don't know what they seek.

All these people base their hateful views on their Christian faith.

This is why I cannot support the Republican Party in the US. While their economic views are not totally repulsive to me, their stand on social issues is repulsive and despicable. Republicans and social conservatives tend to throw reason and tolerance throw the window in order to keep their dogmas in power. Maybe that’s what Jesus do.

Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Eric Stonestreet play a gay couple in ABC's comedy "Modern Family". Ferguson is gay, but Eric not. Yet, they both understand how painful it might be to be gay in a society that hates them, in many cases, for no more reason than ancient beliefs.

Others who (unexpectedly) also support gays' rights, are Cindy and Megan McCain, wife and daughter of John McCain. Who would have thought so, right? If these two can understand that gays are as much of humans as everyone else, then I think there is still hope for the world.

Ratzinger and the Nazis

I should have written this a long time ago, especially because the Spanish version came out in March. Now that it was updated, I think I can make a pretty complete post about the relationship about Ratzinger and the nazis.

Yes, Joseph Ratzinger was part of the Hitler Youth.

Why?

Because he had no other option.

At that time, every teenager who turned 14 was drafted and sent to serve in the nazi army. Ratzinger never said “I want to kill Jews, so I’ll enroll with the nazis.” He was just drafted and that was it. He even disliked it so much that he eventually deserted.

Then there is a picture that drives many atheists and non-believers in general nuts. This picture.


It’s unbelievable that there are people who think they hold the flag of reason and yet, are so stubborn in their desire to see Ratzinger as a nazi that they are very willing to throw reason through the window and yell harangues, just like the most fanatical jihadist.

If you know a little bit of history about Raztinger, you’ll see that he was born in 1927. When he turned 14, he was drafted to the Hitler Youth (this is, in 1941). In 1945 the war ended and he deserted from the army. He was 18 at that time. He then went to the seminary and was ordained as a priest in 1951 at the age of 24.

So, Ratzinger would only have used the priest robes six years after WWII ended and the nazi regime ended, a regime Ratzinger despised. Because of this, it’s ridiculous to think that he could have done the nazi salute.

But if you still want to believe that the picture above is a nazi salute, consider that when a priest is ordained, he has to lift both arms. Obviously, if we just present ONE arm lifted, the less enlightened and most fanatical minds will think that it is a nazi salute. But if we investigate with real desire to know and not just being a mindless lemming that follows and attacks whatever he or she doesn’t like, we will find the truth:



These are Raztinger (at the right) and his brother, being ordained as priests. There is no sign of nazism in it. If you truly care about truth and facts, just drop the idea.

So, don’t you ever try to relate Ratzinger’s mistakes to his being in the Hitler Youth, since you would be ridiculed by a well-informed catholic. This is something very simple and obvious that can be prevented by just reading a little bit. Religious fanatics may permit themselves those attitudes, to be ignorant and babble non-sense, since their beliefs do not require them to know, just to believe.

A non-believer should not behave that way.

Ratzinger is a despicable person for many reasons, but this is not one of them.

Threesome Thursdays: "A" for Agnostic

To be an agnostic has a pretty bad connotation to many, since they are considered cowards and weaklings who can't choose a determined position in the God debate. Believers consider them infidels, while atheists will consider them worthless and weak.

This is mostly because agnosticism is considered as a middle point between theism and atheism, and whoever falls into that category is not only wrong, but also lacks the compromise to behave according to a certain lifestyle. However, to me, that perception is pretty empty and arbitrary, given that it doesn't take into account the difference between knowledge and belief.

I would like to write more about this, which I'll do in the near future. Something I would like to make clear since this moment is that the discussions between atheists and agnostics seem to me worthless, especially when such discussion go the ad-hominem level, with one side calling names to the other, such as “arrogant” or “ignorant”

So, I present to you three great people who have considered themselves agnostics, but not atheists and, for their work, deserve admiration and recognition.

Thomas H. Huxley
Huxley was an English biologist who played an important role in the popularization of the theory of evolution, so much, that he received the nickname of “Darwin's Bulldog”. Huxley was the first to use the term “agnostic” to describe his theological position.

Agnosticism is not a creed but a method, the essence of which lies in the vigorous application of a single principle... Positively the principle may be expressed as in matters of intellect, do not pretend conclusions are certain that are not demonstrated or demonstrable.

Despite being skeptic towards the newly proposed theory of evolution, Huxley became one of the most important players in the secularization of Europe. Even though he considered himself an agnostic, Huxley was against every kind of organized religion.

Why do I admire Huxley? In his time, the theory of evolution was new and there were still many questions about it. He took it skeptically, but later became one of its best proponents.


Carl Sagan
Sagan is one of the most important figures regarding science and its popularization. As he explains in his books, to know something so formidable and not tell everyone was perverse. And despite that, he never considered himself an atheist.

Sagan would be so useful today, what with all the debates about science and religion. By most definitions he would be called an atheist, but he hated the term. "An atheist has to know a lot more than I know. An atheist is someone who knows there is no god. By some definitions atheism is very stupid."

Now, I don't think atheism is stupid, but to get conclusions without a correct interpretation certainly is. As I said before, atheism, agnosticism and theism are not in a line, in which agnosticism is in the middle. More accurately, it would be a Cartesian plane in which gnosticism/agnosticism (this is, knowledge) is in the X axis, while theism/atheism (this is, belief) is in the Y axis.

Sagan is very clear in that position, not just in the interview (some fanatic atheist told me that could have been a fake interview), but also in his book The Demon-Haunted World.

Religious doctrine that is insulated from disproof has little reason to worry about the advance of science. The grand idea, common to many faiths, of a Creator of the Universe is one such doctrine – difficult alike to demonstrate or dismiss.

To better illustrate this point, this is an excerpt of Sagan' series “Cosmos”



To understand the existence of a god could be like trying to understand a tridimensional object while one has only two dimensions. Of course, that doesn't mean that we have to think there are actually tridimensional objects, or worse, think we can understand them.

I think that even though Sagan described himself as an agnostic, he would have been fighting for the same ideals many remarkable atheists have nowadays, among them, tho give science a proper place in our lives and fight pseudoscience and the damage they do.


Mario Vargas Llosa
This is why I wrote about agnostics today. Mario Vargas Llosa is an important writer and intellectual in the Spanish-speaking world, who today won the Literature Nobel Prize. For many, Vargas Llosa is a far right activist, while to others is someone who sympathizes with the radical left and its ties to terrorism and communism. In other words, idiots from both sides hate him. I like that.

I also like to read his books. His style is a little bit complicated, since he tends to not follow an order in time and space. But once the reader gets used to that, the book becomes an awesome voyage to the story it is telling.

Even though he run for president in Peru in 1990 for the conservative party, he is not a Catholic, like most of traditional conservatives. He describes himself as an agnostic.

“To be a non-believer was worrying and even anguishing for the Catholics who supported me in the Movimiento Libertad (Freedom Movement) and in the Partido Popular Cristiano (People's Christian Party), especially to those who weren't, as most I knew, routine believer, lax, and purely social, but those who actually wanted to live according to what their faith wanted them to be. I know few Catholics like this.”

“When I started my political life, anticipating to, was evident, my adversaries would try to exploit in the next months, I explained in an interview that I wasn't a believer, neither an atheist, but an agnostic, but I wouldn't discuss religion in this campaign. Religious beliefs, just like friends, sexual and marital life, belong to the private realm, thus, they should be respected and never made for the public debate. I also said it was obvious that, whoever governed Peru, should acknowledge that most Peruvians are Catholics, and thus, act with respect to such beliefs.

Certainly, I do like to see that someone who I admire and agree (me and many others) is also very reasonable.

So, these are three agnostics that I think are admirable and worthy of recognition. And, even though they shun the “atheist” label, in general, we all are non-believers who have similar ideals and have more in common than differences. If we want to reach such ideals, to fight among us is just shooting at our feet.

Jueves de tríos: Con "A" de Agnóstico

El ser agnóstico tiene una connotación bastante fea para muchos, pues se les considera demasiado débiles y cobardes como para adjudicarse una postura determinada respecto a la existencia de Dios y su creencia en este. Por un lado son considerados tan herejes por los creyentes, mientras que los ateos confesos los miran por encima del hombro.

Esto se debe en gran parte a que el agnosticismo es percibido como un punto medio entre el teísmo y el ateísmo, y quien se considere como tal es por lo tanto alguien no solo equivocado, sino alguien sin el valor como para tener un modo de vida de acuerdo a una creencia o falta de la misma. Sin embargo esa percepción me parece un tanto arbitraria y vacía, pues no contempla la diferencia entre el saber y el creer.

Me gustaría explayarme sobre esto, lo cual haré en el futuro. Algo que sí me gustaría dejar en claro desde ahora es lo inútil que me parecen las peleas entre ateos y agnósticos, especialmente cuando estas escalan a un nivel en el que los argumentos se reducen a gritos de “ignorante” o “arrogante”. Y es que en la práctica, ambos buscamos objetivos similares.

Es así que les presento tres grandes personajes que se han definido como agnósticos y son indudablemente admirables e inteligentes.


Thomas H. Huxley
Huxley fue un biologo inglés que jugó un rol importante en la divulgación de la recientemente propuesta teoría evolutiva de Darwin, tanto así que se le llamó “El Bulldog de Darwin”. Huxley usó el término “agnóstico” por primera vez para describir su postura teológica:

“El agnosticismo no es un credo, sino un metodo, una esencia en la cual yace la vigorosa aplicación de un simple principio. El principio puede ser expresado positivamente: en asuntos intelectuales, sigue tu razón tan lejos como te lleve, sin importar ninguna otra consideración. Y negativamente: en asuntos intelectuales, no pretendas que son ciertas las conclusiones que, o no han sido demostradas o directamente no son demostrables.”

A pesar de su escepticismo ante la teoría de la selección natural, Huxley llegó a ser uno de los más importantes próceres de la secularización europea. A pesar de considerarse agnóstico, Huxley se encontraba totalmente en contra de toda encarnación de religión organizada.

¿Por qué me agrada Huxley? En su tiempo y con lo recientemente propuesta que era la teoría de la evolución, Huxley la tomó escepticamente, para luego dedicarse a defenderla ante otras ideas que difícilmente daban las respuestas que daba la teoría evolutiva.


Carl Sagan
Sagan es una de las figuras más importantes de la ciencia y la divulgación de esta. Tal como explica en uno de sus libros, a Sagan le parecía perverso el saber algo que le parecía tan formidable y no salir a contárselo al mundo. Y a pesar de eso, Sagan nunca se consideró un ateo.

“Un ateo tiene que saber más de lo que yo sé. Un ateo es alguien que sabe que no existe ningún Dios. En algunas definiciones, el ateísmo es bastante estúpido”

Yo no creo que el ateísmo sea estúpido, pero que el sacar conclusiones sin una correcta interpretación de los términos se acerca bastante a lo estúpido. Como dije anteriormente, el ateísmo, agnosticismo y el teísmo no se encuentran en una recta que mide el grado de creencia en Dios. Tal como yo lo veo, el gnosticismo/agnosticismo (es decir, el conocimiento) vendría a ser un eje X de un plano cartesiano, mientras que el teísmo/ateísmo (la creencia) sería el eje Y de dicho plano.

Espero poder hacer un gráfico en español para poder ilustrar eso mejor.

Sagan deja clara su postura no solo en esa entrevista (no faltó el ateo fanático que me dijera que podría haber sido trucada), sino que también es algo presente en su libro “The Demon Haunted World”

“La doctrina religiosa que se aparta de la posibilidad de ser probada cierta o falsa tiene poco que preocuparse del avance de la ciencia. La gran idea, común en muchas religiones, de un creador del universo es una de esas doctrinas, difíciles de probar o negar”

Para ilustrar mejor este punto, Sagan explica como podríamos percibir la cuarta dimensión.



Entender la existencia de dios bien podría ser como tratar de entender el objeto tridimensional siendo nosotros bidimensionales. Por supuesto, eso no quiere decir que haya que pensar que tales objetos tridimensionales existen y peor aun, hacer como que los entendemos.

Pienso que por más que Sagan se haya definido como agnóstico, hoy en día tendría metas similares con los ateos más reconocidos, metas que incluyen el darle a la ciencia su lugar en la sociedad y combatir la superchería y pseudociencias debito al daño que estas hacen.

Mario Vargas Llosa
Y es por él que se me ocurrió escribir sobre agnósticos notable hoy. Mario Vargas Llosa, gran escritor e intelectual peruano, recibió hoy el premio Nobel de Literatura. Vargas Llosa representa para muchos una derecha extrema, mientras que para otros es un vendido a los liberales sociales que simpatizan con terroristas y comunistas. Es decir, los imbéciles de ambos extremos lo odian. Eso me agrada.

También me agrada leer sus libros. Si bien su estilo puede ser un tanto complicado debido a los saltos espacio-temporales que hace, una vez que el lector se ubica, notará que lee una gran obra

A pesar de haber representado a un partido de la derecha en las elecciones presidenciales de 1990, Vargas Llosa no es un católico tradicional, sino un agnóstico:

"El no ser un creyente fue motivo de preocupación, acaso de angustia, para los católicos que me apoyaban, en el Movimiento Libertad y en el Partido Popular Cristiano, sobre todo aquellos que no eran, como la mayoría de los que yo conocía, creyentes rutinarios, laxos, puramente sociales, sino que se esforzaban por vivir en coherencia con los dictados de su fe. Conozco pocos católicos de esta índole y don Ernesto Alayza Grundy es uno de ellos." (pp. 126-127)

Al comenzar mi actividad política, adelantándome a lo que, era evidente, mis adversarios tratarían de explotar a fondo en los meses y años siguientes, expliqué en una entrevista con César Hildebrandt que yo no era creyente, tampoco un ateo, sino un agnóstico, pero que no discutiría en la campaña sobre religión. Pues las creencias religiosas, como las amistades, la vida sexual y sentimental pertenecen al dominio de lo privado, deben ser rigurosamente respetadas y en ningún caso convertidas en materia de debate público. Precisé también que, como era obvio, quien gobernase el Perú, cualesquiera que fuesen sus convicciones, debía ser consciente de que la gran mayoría de peruanos eran católicos, y actuar con el debido respeto para con esos sentimientos. (p. 127)

Ciertamente me complace el ver que alguien a quien admiro y con quien concuerdo (yo y muchos más, debido a su increíble obra) sea alguien tan razonable.

En fin, estos son tres agnósticos que me parecen admirables y dignos de reconocimiento. Y recalco, que por más que esquiven la etiqueta de ateos, en general, somos no creyentes que compartimos metas similares. Si lo que se quiere es alcanzarlas, pelearnos entre nosotros no viene a ser más que dispararnos a los pies.

666, The Number of the Beast, and Dragon Ball

Woe to you, oh earth and sea For the Devil sends the beast with wrath Because he knows the time is short Let him who hath understanding Reckon the number of the beast For it is a human number Its number is six hundred and sixty six

Yesterday, the blog’s Facebook page reached 666 fans. I asked the members what to do to celebrate such event and many said that nothing should be done, that number is nothing especial. They are right.

However, even though that number is just another one, it does mean something. Something that thanks, to the religious way of thinking, we all recognize. And this is not the only thing that can be perceived as evil or satanic. There are many more things that can be seen as “of the devil”, thanks to superstition and religion. If there is something that represents good (God) then there must be something that represents evil, and we have to look for that.

This is what happens with the 666. It appears in the Bible, which is supposed to be the “Word of God”, identified as the “Number of the Beast”. And that’s it. Everything that has to do with that number automatically becomes “of the Devil”. That’s the limited rationale of those who have the Bible as only guide for their lives, that everything has to have a purpose and that a number is not just a number.

This has been going on for centuries, but had a revival when “The Omen” came out in 1976.



Besides the number 666, the name “Damian” and the Rottweiler have been associated with the devil. That’s the power superstition has on the weak religious mind.

Few years later, in 1982, Iron Maiden released “The Number of the Beast.” The group had already drawn attention because of their music, their lyrics and their LPs. Given the nature of the group, it wasn’t surprising that they made a song about the “Number of the Beast”. Which was kind of surprising is that many saw them as satanic, just for a song.




Those around 40 might remember how dangerous and “taboo” was to listen to Iron Maiden. At least in my country there were many stories about outraged mothers who destroyed posters, cassettes and any paraphernalia related to Iron Maiden belonging to the teenage son.

That is how ignorance and religion play together. The song is about a nightmare one of the members had. Yet, it was only needed that it featured something described as “evil” in the Bible to be taken as evil and with a strong campaign against it.

I wasn’t born yet when “The Number of the Beast” came out, and I would be interested in it many years later. But I had to see first hand something very similar.

During the 90s there was a Dragon Ball fever in Latin America. Kids from my generation grew up along with Goku, seeing his quests, battles, friends and enemies. Goku was a good guy who fought against eveil and to be better and stronger. A real hero.

But its success also attracted the attention of several churches who, forgetting about their “Thou shalt not lie” commandment. A flyer circulated, accusing Dragon Ball of meaning “The coming of the beast”, saying that “Kakaroto” means “evil possession”, Saiyajin of meaning “Possessed by the Devil”, Kayo Ken of being some kind of evil energy. Pure bullshit, as you can see, but it was enough for many parents and teachers to declare war on the anime series. They did so without knowing exactly what was behind that on just taking as true a pamphlet claiming to be against the devil.

That is how religion works, it feeds on ignorance and fills it with false information that usually leads to suffering and hatred. The religious mind makes the persona a mindless zombie that will follow anything that has the “God” seal on it. The saddest thing is that it doesn’t limit to awesome bands and cartoons, but actually harms people.

666, el Número de la Bestia y Dragon Ball

Anoche la página de Facebook de este blog pasó los 666 fans. Se me ocurrió preguntar si se debía hacer algo, a lo cual varias voces me respondieron que no, que tal número no es nada especial. Y tienen toda la razón.

Sin embargo, aunque ese número realmente no signifique nada, es algo que resalta gracias al imaginario religioso de la gente común. Y no es lo único que puede ser percibido como relacionado con lo malvado, lo satánico o lo contrario a Dios. Ese es uno de los peligros del pensamiento mágico religioso: Si hay algo que representa el bien único (Dios), debe haber algo que representa el mal único, y que está a nuestro alrededor.

Eso pasa con el bendito 666. Aparece en la biblia, la dizque palabra de Dios, identificada como el número de la bestia. Y listo, todo lo que tenga que ver con el bendito número automáticamente pasa a ser demoníaco. Y es que en el limitado razonamiento de aquel que lleva la Biblia como guía de vida, nada puede ocurrir al azar, sino debe haber sido puesto por alguien más.

Esto ha venido pasando desde tiempos inmemoriales, pero tuvo un resurgimiento cuando se estrenó “The Omen”, mejor conocida en español como “La Profecía”



Además del 666, el nombre “Damián” y el Rottweiler fueron relacionados con el mal. Ese es el poder de una simple película en la mente religiosa.

Pocos años después llegaría The Number of the Beast, de Iron Maiden, los cuales ya habían atraído varias miradas con sus música, letras y portadas de discos. Dada la naturaleza de las canciones del grupo, era entendible que se hiciera una canción sobre el bendito número de la bestia. Lo que tal vez haya pasado algunos límites es la forma en que se les calificó de grupo satánico, por una simple canción.



La canción salió en 1982. Aquellos que rayan los 35 años podrán dar fe del tabú que era en aquel entonces escuchar a Iron Maiden, tener cassettes, posters o el Long Play con la carátula del diablo. Incontables historias deben haber sobre alguna madre preocupada rompiendo los tesoros de algún adolescente.

Es así como juegan la ignorancia y el pensamiento religioso. Existe algo que no se conoce, pero cuando algún tipo de información llega con el sello de Dios, entonces no deseo de investigar más. Basta con que se diga que “Dios lo dijo” para que automáticamente uno se convierta en un lemming. O un borrego, que es lo más adecuado cuando se habla de cosas como “el buen pastor”.

Yo aun no existía cuando The Number of the Beast apareció. Pero me tocó vivir algo parecido.

¿Se acuerdan de Dragon Ball? Por supuesto que sí. Mi generación creció junto a Goku, viendo sus peleas, sus victorias, sus derrotas y sus enfrentamientos contra seres cada vez más fuertes. Goku era el amigo que siempre luchaba por el bien y para ser mejor cada día. Goku era un verdadero heroe, sin capa y sin calzoncillo sobre el pantalón.

Si se acuerdan de Dragon Ball, entonces seguramente también se acuerdan de la campaña que se hizo para acusar al popular dibujo de satanico.

En aquel tiempo un panfleto estuvo circulando sobre los supuestos nexos satánicos que tenía Dragon Ball. Y al igual que Iron Maiden, innumerables señoras, profesores y autoridades eclesiásticas preocupadas pusieron el grito en el cielo, sin saber exactamente de qué se trataba Dragon Ball y aceptando de buenas a primeras la información que venía, de la misma forma que con Iron Maiden, con el sello de Dios encima.

Ese es uno de los riesgos a los que se enfrenta la sociedad cuando deja en paz a la gente creer lo que le da la gana sin decirle nada. El creer en algo divino no es inofensivo, pues nos hace quedarnos satisfechos en nuestra ignorancia, y más aun llenarla con falsedades que pueden llegar a algo más que a romper posters de grupos musicales o hacerle mala publicidad de un dibujo animado

Una historia de blasfemias en un foro muy, muy lejano

Con el tema de la blasfemia vino a mi memoria un episodio muy interesante que sucedió hace algunos años y que al recordar, me hace tener una esperanza en el mundo del futuro. Ojalá le pase lo mismo a muchos de ustedes.

En aquel tiempo (no hace mucho en realidad, fue en Enero del 2009) había un Mapache blasfemo que participaba activamente en un foro de animación japonesa y que era moderador de una de las zonas del foro.

Un día, en un tema sobre lo que supuestamente hizo Jesucristo desde los 12 hasta los 33 años, alguien hizo un comentario indicando que, sabiendo lo que le iba a pasar, se fue de parranda. Siguiendo el espíritu de la broma, el Mapache dijo que, con la habilidad de convertir el agua en vino, una reunión junto a una fuente pública, debe haber sido una bomba tremenda.

Tal comentario no fue bien recibido por otro de los moderadores, quien no perdió oportunidad de tratar de censurar al Mapache. Este moderador, al que aquí llamaré Carlos, tenía además funciones de administrador, pero eso era secreto y solo salía a relucir cuando o era muy necesario o le faltaba control para mantener el perfil bajo.

Es así que Carlos le deja al Mapache este mensaje, en público

Bueno, cada quien tiene sus argumentos (validos o no); pero respetos guardan respetos. Mapache Blasfemo, si no crees en Jesús, correcto, es tu opción. Pero ESTO:

Mapache blasfemo dijo:
Facil que sí, con tantos patas que lo seguían y pudiendo convertir el agua en vino, una reuna al lado de un caño habría sido la muerte. Coma etílico? No importa, yo soy Jesús, chupa nomás, que de ahí te resucito

...es demasiado. Se que eres lo suficientemente inteligente para poder argumentar y debatir sin tener que usar estos facilismos que, repito, incomodan a quienes SI creemos en Jesús sin necesidad de pruebas. En eso consiste la fe.

Quizás no soy el mejor de los cristianos (casi nunca voy a misa, soy de poca oración, me parece más concreta la teoría de la evolución que la del creacionismo, entre otras cosas); pero respeto lo suficiente al hijo de Dios y a la Virgen María (así como a quienes también creen en ellos) como para decirte que te estás pasando. Mídete.

Carlos, el típico “católico no practicamente” pide mesura. El Mapache blasfemo, ni corto ni perezoso, responde con esto:

Es gracioso como podemos reirnos de tantas cosas, nos burlamos de los politicos, los presidentes, los futbolistas, profesores, pensadores, filosofos, etc. Pero las religiones y sus figuras siempre han tenido ese tufillo de "intocabilidad", como si estas fuesen reales y sacras para todos.

No estoy diciendo que *quienes crean* en tal o cual religion sean así o asá, en tal caso, con todo derecho podrás decirme que me "mida". Por otro lado, mi "blasfemia" es bastante inocua al tener como objetivo figuras de las que poco se sabe y lo que se sabe es contado por instituciones que muchas veces usaran eso para su beneficio. Por supuesto, muchos creyentes no lo interpretarán así. Sino, preguntémosle a todos aquellos creyentes que quemaron embajadas a causa de una caricatura.

Creo que fue una respuesta bastante mesurada y directa al punto. Cabe mencionar que hubieron quienes señalaron la posibilidad de que Carlos le tenga cierta inquina al Mapache por asuntos que no vienen al caso. Pero el Mapache prefirió no hacer caso de ello.

Pocos momentos después, en la parte exclusiva para moderadores, Carlos le vuelve a dejar un mensaje al Mapache, un mensaje más largo y conminándolo a que “cese y desista” de su actitud blasfema, citando los términos de uso del foro y la definición de la RAE de “blasfemo”. Cabe mencionar que esos términos de uso son los que están en la casilla que siempre marcamos y nunca leemos, y que si la siguiéramos, la mitad de la internet no existiría.

En fin, todo ello venía acompañado de una “advertencia” de que de no desistir, se iba a “dar parte” de ello al Administrador Absoluto del foro.

Ahora, si una vez más persistes en lo mismo, lo reportaré directamente a la administración para que se tomen las medidas del caso, especialmente porque el subforo de Fenómenos Paranormales (ahora que lo pienso, ¿qué hace el tema de Jesús ahí?) no cuenta momentaneamente con moderadores activos. Ya alguna vez el Moderador Absoluto dijo que este foro es para *gente inteligente*, y quiero seguir creyendo que tú aún lo eres. Si no te parece, crea tu propio foro o utiliza tu web de uso personal. Ten la seguridad que no ofenderás a nadie ahí que premeditadamente no quiera ser ofendido. Y lo digo especialmente por mi, porque no lo leeré.

¿Qué podía hacer el Mapache? ¿Dejar de criticar lo criticable y agachar la cabeza ante la censura? ¿O seguir adelante y arriesgarse a que el juicio del administrador absoluto vaya de la mano con la de Carlos? También cabe resaltar que en ese tiempo el ser un moderador era considerado con cierto grado de honor, y que aquellos que se ganaban la antipatía del moderador absoluto podían sufrir feas consecuencias en esa comunidad. ¿El Mapache se quedaría callado o se arriesgaría a ello?

El Mapache blasfemo hizo esto último y contestó:

Pues lamento mucho que el administrador vaya a tener que intervenir en un asunto tan banal como el comentario que originó todo esto, especialmente porque supongo que este ha de tener cosas más importantes que hacer.

Tal como dices, que este foro es un para *gente inteligente*, igualmente quiero pensar que lo eres y que tomas un comentario como el que hice como lo que era, un chiste que le seguía la onda a otro más. Tal como dijiste, tengo bastantes argumentos para demostrar que lo soy, los cuales están presentes en el resto de temas del foro que hablan del asunto.

Y es aquí donde los registros de las conversaciones se pierden. Sin embargo, debe haber habido un cierto intercambio de palabras entre Carlos y el Administrador Absoluto, pues pocas horas después aparecía un subforo (el cual solo los Administradores tienen la facultad de crear) dedicado exclusivamente a lo que es religión. Y en este un tema titulado “Ateísmo, la guía del nuevo milenio”. Y en este, un mensaje del administrador absoluto que empieza con…

Afrontémoslo. La biblia es la patraña más grande de la historia. Un hatajo de estupideces escrita por una comunidad sumamente mediocre, alucinantemente ignorante de conceptos igualitarios y de derechos humanos mínimos, que como mayor conocimiento del mundo creían que el Sol giraba alrededor de la Tierra.

Tan primitiva sociedad no podía menos que elaborar "libros sagrados" donde su dios es tan imbécil como ellos, y se regodea castigando, matando, forzando sacrificios humanos y mandándole plagas a todos los que pensaban diferente que él

Obviamente, el Mapache blasfemo se rió de muy buena gana al apreciar la ironía del destino. Se regocijó igualmente al ver que el Administrado Absoluto era alguien muy racional en sus comentarios y con el asunto de lo que crítica a la religión. Y también se vaciló imaginando la cara de Carlos cuando viese que, si fue él quien dio noticia al Administrador Absoluto, el tiro le salía por la culata.

Esta historia es verdad, pero no me la contó un amigo de un amigo. En realidad no interesa quién la contó. Lo rescatable es que aun hay posibilidad para creer en la racionalidad de aquellos que tienen la sartén por el mango.
